Ease Back to School Jitters with These Essential Items

Image

If your child is starting a big year this year–perhaps beginning high school or going away to college for the first time–we know that no matter how much you prepare, first day jitters will always arise. To keep the nerves to a minimum, I’ll let you in on a little secret that has always worked for me: stay as organized as possible. With new teachers, friends, and class schedules, it’s easy to become overwhelmed and confused. And with the stress of making sure you have everything you need for that first day, purchasing helpful organization tools is often overlooked. But if you have these four simple tools for success, the days of forgetting your binder or bringing the wrong book to class will be ancient history.

1)      Agenda. Many people underestimate the importance of a hard copy appointment book, thinking they’ll be able to keep track of events in their head or in a blank notebook. But the calendar format of this weekly and monthly agenda is just what you need to visualize your busy new schedule, and it runs from July 2013-July 2014—perfect for the school year.

2)      Subject dividers. If you’re starting high school or college, dividers for your binder are cheap and absolutely essential. And you can use them however you want—to separate subjects, topics, ideas, etc. A perfect blend of organization and creativity!

3)      Staplers and staples. Don’t count on borrowing your friend’s or roommate’s, because they are probably thinking the same thing. No one wants to be the student who never has his report stapled together on due day, so be sure to invest in a quality stapler for ultimate academic success.

4)      Message Board. Whether you put it in your locker or hang it in your dorm, message boards are a fun way to remember due dates, appointments, and events,  because you can personalize  them to suit your style. This fun board from Target is only $12.34, and you can use it for daily reminders, to hang photos, to leave notes for your friends—however you see fit!

With these simple organization tools, available from our merchants at great prices, you can spend more time on your studies and less time on stress!

Back to School Means It’s Time for New Technology!

Image

Every year when back to school rolls around, trying to figure out the best deal on a new laptop,  printer, calculator, or tablet can be overwhelming. So let us help! Right now, our merchants are offering great deals on the kind of top-quality technology that’s guaranteed to keep you at the top of your class.

Math will seem a lot less intimidating when you’re prepared with the TI-84 Plus Graphing Calculator. This calculator from Staples is 2.5 faster than the TI-83, and comes with 13 pre-loaded applications to help you in subjects like algebra and graphing. It’s like having a built-in homework helper! You can also save your work and transfer your files to your computer, making sharing and collaborating with friends easy and fun.

If you’re going away to college, I can’t stress how handy it is to have a quality printer in your room. It will save you money and a lot of time waiting in line at the library, especially during the stress of finals. This Epson Workforce color inkjet printer from Target is on sale for $129.99, and with its state of the art copying, scanning, and printing features as well as its versatile paper handling capability, this printer is a great investment to avoid the stress of dysfunctional library printers.

A quality laptop case is also essential for safe transport of your computer to and from class. This case from Office Depot has additional padded compartments for all your accessories and is durable enough to last through whatever the elements throw at you.

When starting a new school year, buying the right technology is a great way to eliminate those classroom jitters and save you time and stress. Shop with our merchants for all the best deals so you’ll be confident and ready to go for that first day!

Staying Cool Out There! More Tips and Deals to Beat the Heat

Image

The schools are out, the sun is hot, Fourth of July is just around the corner–summer is in full force! There are few things more relaxing in life than a warm sunny day with nothing to do, but in order to get the most out of your relaxation, be sure to stay healthy, hydrated, and protected. Below are more tips to help you relax comfortably this summer!

1)      It’s important to keep your skin moisturized and protected. In addition to sunscreen, check out Bath & Body Works for great deals on moisturizers, lotions, and creams in such delectable summer scents as Juniper Breeze and Caribbean Escape.  This rich, tropical Aruba coconut body lotion is only $5.50!

2)      Protect your eyes! If you have light eyes, like I do, then you know all too well the importance of a good pair of shades. Besides looking cool, sunglasses protect your eyes from harmful UV rays and make reading in the sun a lot more comfortable! Liven up your summer style with these bold Steve Madden print cat eye sunglasses from Nordstrom.

3)      Lastly, when outside, be sure to spend ample time in the shade. Make sure your garden has a shady area, and that you set up kid’s play areas in an area out of direct sunlight. This two-tier gazebo on sale from Sears is the perfect relief from a hot summer’s day! And with a privacy and insect screen, you can enjoy all the pleasures of sitting outside on a warm summer’s afternoon, with none of the discomfort.

Happy summer my friends! To end, I will leave you with these words from poet Emily Dickinson, celebrating the beauty of those warm summer nights that are gone before we have processed their arrival.

“To see the Summer Sky

Is Poetry, though never in a Book it lie—

True Poems flee—“

Sunshine and Savings This Summer!

Image

Barbeques, beaches, warm nights with friends…what’s not to love about summer? If you’re like me, you’ve been waiting since last September to bust out those flip flops and sundresses again. But we all know how fleeting summer is, so be sure to follow our recommendations below to stay cool and get the most of the season.

1)      For those long, humid days, light-weight clothes are a must. Macy’s offers a fantastic selection of colorful, breezy sundresses at great prices, like this Style&co sleeveless blouson dress. Its scoop neck and braided trim make it a fun and stylish option to wear at any summer gathering. And with yellow, navy, and black colors available, choose the option that best suits your style!

2)      Get out of the kitchen. What better way to enjoy a lazy summer afternoon than by firing up the grill in the warm summer breeze? With this Kenmore 4-burner stainless steel gas grill, Sears has you covered. And just in time for Fourth of July cookouts! This summer essential has four main burners and one side burner for sauces or side dishes, and is marked down from $349.99 to $249.99. When grilling, we recommend mixing hotdogs and hamburgers with some lighter fare, like fresh fruit, to make sure you stay refreshed and hydrated.

3)      If you’re exercising outdoors, make sure it’s at cooler times in the day like dusk or early morning, and make sure you’re wearing light-weight gear, such as this Nike Miller tank top with Dri-FIT fabric that wicks away moisture and is designed to keep you comfortable in warmer weather.

Check back next week for more product recommendations and tips on how to beat the heat this summer. And the best part is, when you shop online with K12Rewards, you can continue earning money for your school long after that final bell rings!
